In poking around Latino USA’s past programs for conversations with some of our writers, I also found a brief conversation with actor Justina Machado, most famous for her role on “Six Feet Under” but also more recently on a reboot of the 70s sitcom “One Day at a Time,” this time centered on a Cuban American family living in L.A. (Notably, however, most of the lead actors are Puerto Rican and Colombian American!) The conversation with host Maria Hinojosa is less than 14 minutes long, and towards the end they take up one of the questions we’ve been weighing: can there be a common or panethnic “Latinx” identity?

And just for fun, an opening titles comparison…

Opening credits for the 2017-2020 reboot, starring Justina Machado and Rita Moreno — with a reboot of the song, too, this time performed by Gloria Estefan. ¡P’arriba!
Opening credits for the original “One Day a Time,” season two (1975), theme song composed by Jeff & Nancy Barry and performed by Polly Cutter.
